About Matthew
These attributes, coupled with an approachable and empathetic nature, make him the financial adviser of choice for a wide range of clients. Although at seemingly opposing stages of life, Matthew’s knowledge is such that he works closely with young professionals as well as pre and post-retirees. They find in Matthew a financial mentor with the competencies required to help them navigate complex strategies tailored to their stage of life and individual circumstances.
Professionals – among them accountants, lawyers and engineers – consider Matthew to be both their contemporary and their confidante as he delivers bespoke financial plans designed to achieve their goals and objectives. With high incomes and high energy, many of these clients look to manage their cash flow without impeding their social life. Matthew understands the lives they want to live and creates compatible cash flow management plans, in addition to incorporating bespoke protection policies to act as a safeguard for unexpected life events that could derail their financial futures.
Looking ahead comes naturally to Matthew. Indeed, he has developed a specialisation in structuring and crafting tailor-made strategies with a view to long-term wealth accumulation. Open-minded and never judgemental, Matthew takes a gentle approach with young investors whose preferred portfolios may be coloured by familial precedents. Matthew outlines a range of options covering property, managed funds, shares and beyond. According to Matthew…"it’s my responsibility to help educate and inform my clients of the wide variety of choices available to them...".
He takes a similar approach when working with pre-retirees and those who may have already made the transition to retirement. Working in collaboration with his clients’ accountants, Matthew seeks tax-effective methods for holding assets and maintaining a steady income stream upon retirement – using retail superannuation funds or Self-Managed Super Funds (SMSF) where appropriate. Further, for those retirees who may wish to forego day-to-day portfolio management, in favour of enjoying new-found freedoms to travel and take up hobbies and interests formerly out of reach due to demands at work, Matthew takes on a role akin to a financial controller.
He stays abreast of shifting markets, communicating those movements to investors and acting on their behalf when and as appropriate. He considers it his privilege to be entrusted as retirees’ conduit to the business world when they choose to take a step back from the cut and thrust of these changing landscapes.
For those with aging parents, or other dependent relatives of advancing years, Matthew is well placed to assist these individuals and couples to tailor a plan for funding their loved ones’ aged care. Sometimes these discussions also turn inward, as pre-retirees and retirees look to shore up arrangements for their own aged care – which may be decades down the track – to remove that responsibility from their offspring.
Matthew’s expertise extends to establishing, maintaining and reviewing estate plans for clients keen to ensure their wealth is distributed according to their expressed intent. Liaising with family members, accountants and legal practitioners comes naturally to Matthew – after all, he is a proponent of integrated and truly transparent financial planning.
Transparency has certainly been a hallmark of Matthew’s career. After attaining his master’s degree, majoring in financial planning, he was eager to enter the work force but did not want an easy entry to the family business. Rather, he worked independently for his father’s former business partner and just like any other young graduate, had to prove his mettle.
Fast forward more than a decade and Matthew has become a trusted adviser to long term clients who value his down-to-earth demeanour, his impressive intellect and his determination to help them make educated, well-informed decisions for their future financial wellbeing.
Personal Life
More than a decade of playing first-grade cricket has instilled in Matthew an ability to work hard, stay focused and collaborate with team members…all attributes that served him well on the cricket field and in the office.
After completing his university studies, Matthew travelled extensively through Europe, the UK and South America. After hanging up his backpack, he returned to Australia and married. Matthew now has two daughters and says, these days, he enjoys exploring the world through their young eyes.
